Pee Van Sprang
Painter, Photographer & Digital Artist (Mackay, QLD)

Van Sprang was born in Suriname and lived in Amsterdam for 10 years, before migrating to Australia.She describes herself as " a cultural melting pot Australian".

Her father was a well known photo journalist and political activist, her mother a dancer, potter and artist, and her grandmother, who is 100 years old, attended the Rotterdam Art's Accademy during the early 1920's, and lived the full Bohemian lifestyle of the era.

Says Van Sprang, "I am certain that the ability for artistic expression is genetic. It can lay dormant and crawl out of the depths at any given time, like a genetic predisposition for disease.Governed by environment, nurture and ultimately self control".

Van Sprang studied photography, digital arts, ceramics, interior design and fashion design, and has only recently embraced painting into her curriculum of creative persuits.

She classes herself as an ' emerging raw artist" , emerging at the other end of the time warp ,devoid of any formal arts training.

"The idea of living in an attic, on the bones of my ass, smoking copious amounts of weed and knocking on too many closed doors wasn't realy appealing to me. Although I always wanted to be a graffiti artist, bombing walls with political slogans. Hell yeah."

"I have always created art but kept it private.I decided to live my life the other way around, persuing something that was financially rewarding, which would make me wealthy whilst i was alive, and still relatively young".

"It has been done, so here I am.The self indulgent creative part has begun.Watch your walls..."

Artists Statement:
"Colour is nature's drug
It can alter your mood.
It can alter your mind.
It can alter your perspective.
All the formal training in the world can make you a perfectionist technician.
But the ability to feel colour has to be within Raw A world without colour would be a dismal existence.
Created by the best abstract artist that ever existed We can only copy we can only emulate and distort that which already exists Beauty you realy don't need drugs to see it."
