Bernd Jansons
Digital Artist (Blue Mountains NSW)

Bernd Jansons is a digital painter based in the Blue Mountains, NSW. His paintings are heavily influenced by two great movements in art in the 20th century; German Expressionism and American Abstract Expressionism. His aim is to question, explore and test the links between visual stimulation and meaning. Bernd is also the owner and director of the Event Horizon Gallery in Katoomba and curator for the Blue Mountains Artists Connection which currently has around 120 members. Bernd has degrees in Applied Science and Arts.

"I believe work created using a computer has a place as fine art along side work created with brush and oils, or watercolours, or crayons, or camera, or spraycan, or stick and ocre or whatever. Furthermore, I have no doubt that had this technology been available to many great artists of the past, they would have employed it without hesitation.

I also believe art through its images and other forms is a language. Its purpose is to convey meaning. Like with natural language (English, French, Spanish, German, etc), commonly used words and phrases are easy to understand because we hear/see them so often. Its the same with commonly used patterns of form, colour and texture. My aim is to make things harder by not using these. I want my images to trouble people in terms of what they mean."
